TASK I :  SYNOPSIS

Task 1 is an individual and weekly task. For this project, we were required to write a synopsis in the form of reaction paper where we were required to analyze the given text, react and come up with a comment to it. Throughout the whole module, we were required to submit 4 synopsis of at leaast 300 words and write it according to the given format and template. In addition, the reaction paper shall also be formulated based on the following questions :

1. What issues or problems does the author address?

2. What is the author's main point?

3. What points or assumptions does the author make, and how does she back that up?

4. What are strengths and weaknesses? Where are problems with the argument?

5. How do the texts relate? (if multiple texts)

6. How do these ideas connect to the overall ideas of the class/unit/etc?

Through this task and from all those given articles, I am given a chance to get used to know more in depth of other perspective towards architecture in a theoritical way and able to relate architectural theories to contemporary architecture and urban forms.

PROJECT  :  IMAGE OF THE CITY

PART A: IDENTIFYING 5 ELEMENTS

Project part A is an individual task where we were required to produced 5 A4 size illustrated diagrams of the given city (macro) and identify Kevin Lynch's 5 elements theory of it. For this project, each tutor was given different site and the given site for my group is Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. With the given site, we were explore the image of Brickfields and identify the 5 elements; path, edges, nodes, landmarks and districts according to Kevin Lych's most famous work which is " The image of the city".

Before we start the project, we went to the site with our tutor. We were encourage to visit the site and walk around it in order to get ourself familiar to the surrounding. In order to identify the 5 elements, we were to the site again to look more in- depth of the 5 elements found in the site.

Through this project task A, I find it interesting to know and understand how a city were design based on the 5 elements and be able to analyse architecture and urban forms in relation to architectural theories.

The following is the introductions of Brickfields and the 5 elements identified :

PART B: AN ILLUSTRATED ESSAY WITH A COGNITIVE MAPPING

Project part B is an individual task where we were required to create cognitive mapping of the previous given micro site which is site C. The cognitive map is to let us understand one's perception and spatial behaviour in cities today. Furthermore, with the cognitive map, we were required to present a critial understanding of emerging contempory urbanismin Kuala Lumpur city spaces in relation to Kevin Lynch notions of imageability and how it influences people's perception of the city. In order to start the project, we were encourage to walk around the site and prduced a cognitive map accorinf to our memory and what we perceived.

For the submission, we were required to produced 2000 words illustrated essay with 1A3 size cognitive mapping of Site C in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

Through this project, I have a better understanding of how architecture and urban forms in relation to relevant architectural theories and able to analyse the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural and intellectual context. With that, I able to prduce a critical intepretation of architecture and urbanism in relation to relevant theories in terms of writing as well as illustration.
