PROJECT 1 :  LIGHTING & ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND DESIGN 

Project 1 is a group task where we were required to form a group of 6 - 7 person. My group members are Peh Ker Neng, Low Yong Ging, Tan Shing Yeou, Yap Wei Tyng, Ong Huey Fen and Choong Lai Mun. For this project, we were required to submit an A4 bound technical report complete with visuals, sketches measured drawings inclusive of the detailing and documentation of the project as well as two A2 boards that summarises the report into lighting and acoustics. Before that, we have to start the project by choosing a case study from the list provided. The building that we choose for our case study is Underground Societe in Bandar Sunway. With that, we have to prepare a measure drawing with appropriate scale of it. Then, we were required to conduct a site visit to the particular site, observe the surrounding of the building and show all the neccessary features which effect on the lighting and acoustics conditions of our case study. After that, we should carry out an appraisal of day-lighting artificial lighting, noise and sound condition of Underground Societe. Besides, we have to analyse and evaluate both lighting and acoustic based on following: 

 

 For Lighting

  • The site conditions (sky condition, building orientation, etc)

  • Take readings of daylight level, lighting level and photos (digital images) in the chosen case study at different times of day (morning, noon, afternoon and at night).

  • Present the analysis in a lighting contour diagram.

  • Quantitative analysis is required in order to present your findings in conclusions.

  • Daylighting and lighting condition (identify the problems)

  • Present all your findings graphically as much as possible

  • Provide the calculation for the existing design.

 

 

For Acoustic

  • The general site conditions (eg. Highway, main roads adjacent to your case study)

  • Take readings of sound level indoor and outdoor and photos (digital images) in the chosen case study at different times of day (morning, noon, afternoon and at night).

  • Present the analysis in a noise contour diagram.

  • Quantitative analysis is required in order to present your findings in conclusions.

  • Indoor and outdoor noise (identify the problems)

  • Present all your findings graphically as much as possible

  • Provide the calculation for the existing design.

 

 

Through this project, I am able to produce a complete documentation on analysis of space in relation to lighting requirement and analysis of factors which effects the lighting design of a space of the chosen building. In addition, through this project, I able to explore and apply undertsanding of building physic. Furthermore, I can also evaluate and explore the improvision by using current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry. Latly, through this project, I have learnt and have basic understanding of lighting layout and arrangements as well as coustic design layout and its arrangements by using certain methods or calculations.

PROJECT 2 :  INTEGRATION PROJECT

Project 2 is an individual task where we were required to produce two A2 sized board for both lighting and acoustic integrated design. In order to start the analysis, we were required to identify 2 spaces from our library design which for lighting it requires artificial lighting and daylighting whereas, for acoustics, we were required to identify spaces that integrate the external & internal noises. In addition, this integration project must be solution based and we were advised to incorporate visuals, diagrams and renderings using any environmental design analysis tools in your presentation boards. Furthermore, calculations to resolve your design integrations solutions must be attached in A4 and submitted together. 

 

Through this project, I have a better understanding and able to show lighting and acoustics principles in my studio V final design. Besides, I am also able to solve design problems in relation to sustainability issues such as natural lighting and site analysis. With all that, I am to produce site analysis which document, interpret and analyze the site context in relation to lighting and acoustics. Lastly, I am able to identify and analyze fuctional needs through case studies to inform of lighting and acoustics.
