PROJECT 1 : PRELIMINARY STUDIES
Project 1 is a group task where we were required to work in a group of 12 from the same tutorial group. For this project, we were required to analyze the given site which is Site 1; Jalan Haji Salleh, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. The whole site analysis us to observe and record the site's current condition, and to collect additional information to be used in the initial design conceptualization and strategy phase. Besides, the key concepts and themes to be discussed in relation to the analysis include : Way-finding (5 Lynchian Principles), Typology and Morphology, Figure/Ground Mapping, Patterns of Movement and Use, Human Behavior and Street Culture. Other than site analysis, we were also required to do some research on precedent studies. Each group is required to study and analyse one example of an urban infill that is a community library. Through the precedent studies, we should be able to understand and aware of the following:
1. What is an Urban Infill?
2. What is a Community Library?
With all the research, it will help us in having a better understanding of what is an urban infill and what are the architectural strategies (massing, spatial planning, facade design) adopted that are necessary in response to its physical context and functional programme. Furthermore, with all the research done we were able to define the community library as a “place which provides public with access to books and periodicals acts as social meeting grounds for an urban/suburban community”.
For this project, the submission requirement is that in a group, we were required to come up with a minimum of 8 A3 panels of site analysis and a minimum of 4 A3 panels of precedent studies.
Through this project, I am able to conduct a case studies and site analysis to generate an understanding of the physical and cultural context and development of urban environments. Besides, I can also descrive and determine the role of a community library in a contemporary urban setting. Moreover, through this project, I have learnt and understand how to examine and establish appropriate urban responses and startegies for designing an urban infill site.

PROJECT 2 : FINAL PROJECT
Project 1 is an individual project where we were required to design a community library within the given urban infill site. The given site is Jalan Haji Salleh, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. The design of the community library should consist of appropriate architectural responses that address the aspects of the urban street context and user behavioural patterns as discerned and analysed in the previous project. For this project, the community library should be a vibrant and interesting place for the whole Sentul that welcome people of all ages and all backgrounds. Besides, the community library should be an inspiring and inviting library building and act as a focal point for the community, generating a feeling of ownership on the part of its users.
For this project, the submission requirement is that we were required to submit 6 - 10 A1 panels that consists of sectional perspective, floor plans, sections, site plan, diagrams, sketches and additional images like 3D renders, diagrams of schematic design and design development startegies and responses.
Through this project, I am able to learnt and understand a basic knowledge of urban architectural typologies, infill design strategies and community library programming. Furthermore, while designing the community library, I am able to demonstrate fundamental knowledge and awareness of local design codes and regulations. Also, I am able to utilise study models, diagramming, mapping, orthographic plan-section and elevational studies to resolve relevant spatial, structural, functional and environmental issues in the library design and lastly succcessfully produced all drawings and physical model that can clearly explain the design clearly.
