PROJECT 1 : MEMORIALS THEMED "JOURNEY OF THE 5 SENSES"
PART A: PRECEDENT STUDIES: ANALYSING SPATIAL POETICS & SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES IN ARCHITECTURE
Project 1, part A is a group task where we were required to form a group of 4-5 person. My group members are Peh Ker Neng, Low Yong Ging, Chung Wei Jin and Lim Yee Qun. For this project, we were required to select 2 precedents for analysis. The precedents can be local, national or international examples. One of the precedent must be pre-modern movement and another one must be contemporary. Also, one of the precedent must be linear and the other is concentric. After selecting the two precedents, we were required to analyse the precedents into 2 A3 panels that consists of diagrams, photos and minimal annotations iilustrating the analysis of the selected precedents. The precedent study panels should include spatial poetics and spatial typologies of the selected building. In the panels, we were required to describe the spatial typologies applied in Studio 2, explanation on how the spaces are organised and ordered, design considerations employed to explore spatial poetry and the spaces articulated in terms of the poetics, sensuality and tactility of architectural spaces. We were also encouraged to use at least 5 images that illustrate poetics of space and analyse how the experiential space is created in terms of the engagement with senses, manipulation of light and its effects on space, texture and materiality and lastly the scale and proportion of spaces. For this project, the 5 of us chose to analyse Temple of Heaven and Funeral Home as our precedent studies.
Through this project, I am able to identify and explain different types in architecture and how they inform spatial use and experience. Besides, I am able to identify and analyse case studies to inform the design project and create tectonic expressions of different spatial typologies which impact on the uses and experential conditions of space. Lastly, I am able to generate design through conscious consideration of section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures.

PART B: 'JOURNEY OF THE 5 SENSES' MEMORIAL
Project 1, part B is a group task where we were required to form a group of 4-5 person. My group members are Peh Ker Neng, Low Yong Ging, Chung Wei Jin and Lim Yee Qun. For this project, we were required to design two memorials for two different person or incident. One of it is to remembrance Lee Kuan Yew and another is to remembrance the incidents happened in Lahad Datu. In order to start this project, we were to told to read the given poetry anf visualise it from an architectural viewpoint, then translate it into a walk by using 2 contrasting spatial typologies which is linear and concentric. The guidelines for linear is 50 metres and 10m x 10m x 10m for concentric. Furthemore, we have to produce a study model via white card or digital modelling for each spatial typology. Lastly, based on the design sketch, we have to develop the plans and sections with coNsiderations of human scale, light and shadow, texture and materials.

Project 2, part A is a group task where we were required to form a group of 4-5 person. My group members are Peh Ker Neng, Low Yong Ging, Chung Wei Jin and Lim Yee Qun. For this project, we were required to conduct a site analysis of the physical context within the identified micro site which is Lembah Bujang, Kedah. We were to collect data and record on the following using maps or diagrams or model of the site survey done on site. The survey consists of the dimensions of its width and depth and indication of any adjacent buildings at the levels of plans, elevation and sections to create an accurate record of what currently exists. Other than site surveys, the anaylysis should includes the following which is orientation (sun path), climate (rainfall &temperature), site contours, adjacent street and vehicular traffic patterns, pedestrian circulation, neighbouring contexts, vegetation, views from site, views to site, views through site, noise as well as the human cultural. After conducted the site anaylysis in the site, we were required to produce and present our analysis through 5-10 minutes digital presentation.
Through this project, I have a better understanding about the site which is Lembah Bujang, Kedah and able to produce a site analysis which document, interpret and analyze the site context and the 'genius loci' of the site in a group of five.
PROJECT 2 : GENIUS LOCI: SITE ANALYSIS & CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
PART A: SITE CONDITIONS & ANALYSIS
Project 2, part B is an individual task where we were require to conduct a historical research of the macro site which is Lembah Bujang, Kedah and collect all the data in the form of literature, old photographs, maps as well as plans. Then, we were told to map the site over a series fo significant stages in the course of its history that provides a description and memory of the life as well as the memory of the place. Those stated above might inspire us by providing inspiration for a contemporary idea that connects directly with past archaelogy or history of the site. Furthermore, we have to produce our personal interpretation of the macro site in the form of sketches individually and the personal interpretations of the overall character of the site will inform subsequent design decisions and it is important to record these honestly and immediately. For the series of sketches, we can use Gordon Cullen's serial vision as a reference. In order to conduct the research with the given time (short), we were encouraged to focus to the following stated. They are the materials of the site as each site has an intrinsic materiality, the memory of the place, significant characteristics, sounds, textures, events that is memorable. The history and memory of the site might be needed to be reinforce in our design. After conducting the research and compiling all the data, we have to conclude them by identifying the key character of the place that would form insoiration in the design and present a design concept for a Visitor's Interpretive Centre derived from the issues discovered. The design concept should be presented in the form of drawings and model.
The submision requirement for this project is that individually, we have to come up with 2 A3 panel of hand-sketches and 4 A3 panels consists of individual conceptual drawings with text to illustrate the concept. Besides, we were also told to submit one conceptual model either physical or in digital.
Through this project, I able to produce a concept design for a Visitor Interpretive Centre based on the site analysis conclusions.

Project 3 is an individual task and is the last project for this module where we were required to design a Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) which response to the site, Lembah Bujang, Kedah. The VIC should be design to serve two purposes which is one to provide a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture and history of the site and another si to provide accommodation to house and display relevant material and interpretive material for public access and information. Furthermore, solutions relying heavily on landscape are encouraged and visitors who visit the centre should be inspired and informed in ways that somhowexpress the spirit of the place. Besides, we were given a few requirements where the total floor area for the centre is 450 sqm which covered both internal and external spaces. Moreover, in terms of room requirements, we have to include 10 given spaces into our design. They are the reception, public gathering space, exhibition space, souvenir shop, M&E space, office, toilets, cafeteria, storage, as well as 1 miscellaneous space to be defined by designer. Other than that, our design should be developed by taking into account the climate, culture and context of the building. We were also required to emphasize the use of materials with heavy thermal mass and were required to indicate materials and show an appreciation of buildability in our final presentation.
The submision requirement for this project is that individually, we have to come up with 4 A1 conveying ideas underlying the design, its overall form and spaces and its spatial qualities. Additionally, we have to include a brief written explanation of our design concept, site plan of scale 1:500, plans, sections, elevation which includes relevant site context at a minimum scale of 1:100. We were also required to produce one photomontage of the architecture within the site context, one key 3D image of the interior space of the building to illustrate the poetry of the space, a set of response diagrams that illustrate our design startegy informed by the context and a set of diagrams clearly demonstrate the spatial typology explored, the circulation, the relationship between inside or outside, views and other points which are appropriate to our design project. Other than producing 4 A1 size presentation board, we were also required to construct a sectional physical model at a scale of 1:100.
Through this project, I am able to generate design based on the unique character and conditions of the site context and able to generate design through conscious consideration of section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light and materials. Last but not least I am able to design a small sclae community building which response to the site and able to produce drawings in both 2D and 3D, modelling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualise architectural design and ideas.
