PROJECT 1 :  CASE STUDY : ANALYSING PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES

Project 1 is a group task where we were required to form a group of 6 person. My group members are Peh Ker Neng, Low Yong Ging, Yap Wei Ting, Ong Huey Fen, Carmen Chee Cha Yi and Chia Yi Ling. For this project, we were told to produce two A3 size research poster of all the research we collected from our site visit. The poster should consists of images, diagrams, tables, charts which are related to our research such as thermal analysis, wind analysis, sun analysis as well as the concept and analysis of the building's passive design strategies. In addition, all the diagrams and images should be labelled properly in order for it to be presentable. Before that, we have to choose a building that best features two passive design strategy for tropical climate and conduct a research on the choosen building. Furthermore, we were given two options of places to conduct this research. One of them is Klang Valley and another is Singapore. The seven of us discussed and we chose to visits one of the green building in Singapore. The building is Solaris. Before the site visits, we did some research on what are the two passive designs found in the building so that we can have make a detail research when we were in the site during the visit. After the visits, we compiled all the information we gathered with the help of a few softwares. They are Revit and Ecotech for sun analysis and Vasari for wind analysis.

Through this project, I am able to understand how the softwares works especially Revit and I enjoy using that because it is not that difficult likeI thought and with the help of the softwares I can easily identify where is the shadow of the building at different time and different orientation. Moreover, I am able to identify environmental conditions related to site conditions and climate and can easily explain the effects of the sun on the thermal performance of Solaris.

The following was attached with the 2 research posters:
